Outside the main entrance to Castle Park in Colchester, near the High Street stands the Colchester War Memorial.
Victory is flanked by St George and Peace.
The Colchester War Memorial was picked after the Royal Academy asked sculptors to send in models of their memorials for an Exhibition in 1919. HC Fehr wanted to create his own idea of what a true memorial should be, art, unhampered by committees and executives demanding the inclusion or omission of certain items or ideas and Victory with St George and Peace was his creation and subsequent model for inclusion in the Royal Academy Exhibition. Colchester along with some other towns picked his model as their wish for their Memorial.
It is cast in Bronze and stands on a stone plinth, and was taken away for cleaning by English Heritage c.2004.
